Read Ben Graham’s (The intelligent investor) to learn about value investing. It is really the only way to make money in the stock market. Don’t ask me, ask Graham’s pupil Mr Warren Buffet.
The dogs of the dow strategies and all those will work under certain economic circumstances, like when the stock market is low in general. In which case the dogs of the dow strategy will just happen to work.
Most of these strategies are all based on past performance of the stock market over the most recent 70 years or so. Consequently there are a lot of coincidences that occurred and statistics that can be drawn from this data over that period of time. However what happened in the past will certainly not be what happens in the future. That is why you need to focus on fundamental investing, value investing. If you don’t, you’ll get smoked.
