I am Database Consultant. I need to make some decisions in my career path. I want to be Architect and want to know about the basic qualities for an Architect in IT organization.
Also, I would like to know whether PMP certification helps Architects.
Absolutely! I am always searching for PMP’s, not just people trained in Project Management. A PMP certification can add 30-40K to your salary a year because you have knowledge of the “discipline”. If you have the opportunity to get it, or the motivation to follow through, by all means. You will make yourself extremely valuable and marketable anywhere. The door will always be open to you!
Well it will be useful to your career in general, whatever path you take, but I don’t think it will particularly further your goal of becoming an architect directly, since the PMP certification is focused on project management. There are probably more appropriate courses/certifications to help you break into that field. However, being an architect who is also a PMP will be a great combination.
