Whatever job you do, it’s unlikely that you walked into it on your first day and knew exactly what to do and how to do it.
So someone had to show you. Bu of course, someone had to show them and someone had to show them etc. But of course, every time some knowledge or information is passed on, some things get lost or changed along the way.
A little bit like that game of Chinese whispers. If you are manager, you need to be sure that your staff don’t change the bits they like along the way – and drop the bits they don’t like. If they alter safety procedures or customer services, that could cost you money or reputation lost, or worse both.
So how can you make sure that everyone gets the same induction training when they start work. Well, online training is one possible solution.
Because everyone gets exactly the same training (because a computer doesn’t know one persons strengths & weaknesses from the next person), you know that the training will be consistent and of the same standard.
Online training has come a long way and almost anything you can teach or learn in a classroom can be replicated online.
Video & sound can be relatively cheaply produced and feedback on student/learner progress can be obtained at all stages of the process. Of course, you have to spend time setting up the training (or getting someone else to) but online training really is spending time to save time in the long run.
