Ok, now, real-world: a manager’s job is to SUBVERT quality to pump out as much product as possible at lowest cost with as much advertising cachet as possible to consumers who have high discretionary income and are stoned on covetousness and status hunger. So a manager must give strict lip service to quality while focusing on production and cost control.
Whatever you do, don’t mention the name of the American who revolutionized Japanese manufacturing to emphasize quality control, Deming. Deming saw the rot at the root of American manufacturing and spoke about it publicly, so he died a pariah.
As a manager you have to over see all operations and make sure they are performing as they should. R&D, training, quality control on raw materials & manufactured outputs, making sure you have the correct staff with skills to do job (HR)……and on and on and on
You get out what you put in so if you assess the inputs, have the correct, well thought out process, then your company will be the beneficiary of a great output!
Depending on the product and if its controlled by machine or workers, their are several responsibilities that you have as manager. 1.Have a mission statement and follow that to the T set up standards that require your hands on, delegate when necessary and always keep your finger in the pie sort of speaking.
