Its time for me to decide what to study at college i would like to study Games design/ programming/ management at university.
I can either study
Btec ict practionners national certificate(equilavent two a Lvls)
A Lvl geography
A Lvl modern History
Or
btec National diploma ICT practionners (equilavent to three A Lvls)
Which one would be best to go onto university.
Your best bet is to find a specific uni course (check out ucas.ac.uk and search for courses) and look at what the required grades are.
In my experience, most courses won’t insist you have a btec nat dip in the area – they will usually ask for 1 a-level or equivalent in the relavant area. They know that at the age of 15/16 most people haven’t decided what they want to do so they allow for flexibility! I think it is good to get a mix of subjects in anyway – it makes things more interesting, shows you are talented in a number of areas, and gives YOU flexibility should you change your mind.
My friend is currently studying computer game programming and studied maths, physics and IT a-levels (one of each). I believe he didn’t quite pass the maths A-level either.
So honestly, I don’t believe it makes much difference – I’d study a mix of subjects unless you are 110% sure you will want to do this course in 2 years time!
It will not count against you though, should you do the btec nat dip – it is still a very valid qualification and will qualify you for many IT jobs, if not crossing over into other disciplines if you show yourself to be academically able!
Good luck
